World Read Aloud Day~March 9, 2011

World Read Aloud Day, being held this year on March 9, 2011,  is about taking action to show the world that the right to read and write belongs to every person, regardless of race, age, or economic situation. It is intended to motivate children, teens, and adults worldwide to celebrate the power of words, especially those words that are shared from one person to another.

Reading aloud happens everyday in my classroom. It's not a special event but rather a daily routine that strengthens the bond of our community of readers. It's magic...and my class will be sharing that magic on Wednesday by reaching beyond the four walls of our classroom.  We will be connecting via Skype with classrooms and libraries in Maine, Pennsylvania, and Illinois, as well as having a special read aloud by author Jody Feldman!

Find out how you can get involved by visiting the LitWorld website! I would love to hear about your plans for World Read Aloud Day!  What would you miss if you could not read or write?

  1. As usual, you ROCK. My class is SO excited for our read aloud via Skype with Iza Trapani tomorrow - we've been doing an author study learning all about her, reading everything she's done, and just getting all jittery about it! I can' WAIT and it's just ONE MORE THING I need to THANK YOU for. :)

  2. Mr. A,
I am so excited for your kindergarten students, and you of course! I do hope you will be able to capture it on camera or video. Would love to share this with our mutual students this summer...or at least share pics at dinner! ;)
    Happy Read Aloud Day!
